the color of september + a new trench

Here we are in September, it’s officially after Labor Day and the push for fall is well on its way.  When I think of this time of year, I know that technically it’s not summer, yet it doesn’t feel quite like fall.  It’s more of an in-between month.  We can still enjoy warmer days but don’t have to endure the dead heat of summer.  Although here at the beach, we still hit the 90’s every day.

If I had to assign a color to September this year, it would be Ashwood by Benjamin Moore.  Cool, elegant, transitional.  With the slightest hint of cooler days to come.

If you’re currently struggling with choosing a color for your home, look no further than Ashwood.  I would especially consider this versatile color for kitchen cabinets or bookshelves in another room.  It would be amazing!  Here it is applied on the walls of this lovely living room.

And here is the same paint color styled much differently in this blogger’s pretty home.

Generally speaking, I love the tan/khaki color family – be it an exterior, interior, or even a wardrobe piece.  You just can’t go wrong.  Lake Martin home via Southern Living

This exterior, by architect, Sussan Lari, is painted in a similar neutral family.  I read that the color here is Nantucket Gray HC-111 (another fave), but it looks so much lighter than what I know Nantucket Gray to be.  Maybe they used only 50% of the color?

There is something calming and beautiful about a nice neutral tan – and it can be applied in any form.  Even as simple as aligned raffia baskets against a deep cream setting.

We spent last weekend in Atlanta, and I couldn’t help but notice when shopping around how I was drawn to neutrals.  In fact, I picked up this linen trench on mega sale (perfect for early fall or spring) and LOVE it.  Mainly because of the color and that it was made out of linen – perfect for Florida!  Oddly enough I look like crap washed out in this color unless I amp up my blush and pair it with a brightly colored top, but I still love it!

I’m not a fan of “outfit pictures” of myself, but here’s a phone shot of what it looks like in real life.  I can’t wait to wear it with jeans and a tee, or even shorts on a cool day, but this was thrown over a dress on my way out the door for church.  In hindsight I would have worn shoes in a bright color, but I was rushed.  We’re always late for church.  I ordered the it in an extra small, which is now sold out.  But they do have small, medium, and large left.  You can find it here.

Hope you have a great weekend!
